Took the Mini on an errand and took the long way home. An hour later my county issued a shelter in place order. I guess that it was good that I drove it while I could. I know I can take out for essential activities, but the run for the sake of the run is out for a bit .

Is it truly shelter in place? We have a stay-at-home order but you are allowed to go outside on walks and leisurely drives. Just have to stay away from people pretty much

Not sure about yours, but our shelter in place doesn't restrict driving. They're encouraging people to get out and get fresh air, just not in groups. Yesterday was nice enough that I took a 45 minute drive with the top down. Felt really good.

The police are never going to pull people over to set up road blocks because questioning people about why they are out will only create situations in which people have to closely interact.

These orders are very confusing for me too. Stay home, except to do things you need to do. Don’t go to work unless you have work to do... WTF. How about stay away from other people and be really clean?

Tbh, you could probably find creative ways of doing that without shutting down half the places that are closed. But, it's just easier to create one catch all rule.

Because all the businesses closed themselves anyways, I don’t see how it’s really different. There’s so much stuff deemed “essential” that it’s almost like county officials want attention making these declarations.

NG/LEO are out here at the crack of midnight. Press conference today promised vigilance by the enforcing parties and puppy tails wagging on delightful seasonal runs through parks by elected official. After which everyone smiled and said they expect 100% compliance.
Meanwhile essential businesses are getting inventive about social distancing.

Yeah my work is pretty far from “essential” but I didn’t feel bad driving to our workshop by myself to work by myself. Even brought my lunch which is un usual.

Ours has clauses about getting out as well, but the same doc then encouraged people to stay home. It’s all over the place.

I stopped at Harbor Freight during my run and they had big boxes bungled to the registers to create a gap. It was interesting.

Yeah the message is inconsistent wherever you are. I’m just limiting (eliminating really) contact with people other than my family, and not touching anything other people touch a lot (ie no playgrounds for my son)

I think you're fine just going for a drive, just don't stop anywhere. I took the family out for a drive during our SIP order. We're not going to catch or spread anything in the vehicle.
